Bihar School of Yoga

Founder Guru: Swami Satyananda Saraswati

The Bihar School of Yoga was founded in 1964 by Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati to impart yogic training to householders and sannyasins alike.

The Yoga techniques developed there are a synthesis of many approaches to personal development, based on traditional vedantic, tantric and yogic teachings in conjunction with contemporary physical and mental health sciences. Today, these techniques are taught by Bihar Yoga Bharati and also by Satyananda Yoga Academies in Australia and Colombia and through the programmes outlined below.

Bihar School of Yoga also guides yoga projects and medical research in association with prestigious hospitals, organisations and establishments. Programs made by Bihar School of Yoga are being used today in the education and prison Government sectors, in hospitals, by the Defence Services, private and public sector industries such as Indian Oil Corporation, Coal India Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, the Steel Authority of India, Hindusthan Paper Corporation, Hindusthan Copper Corporation and many more.

Shantikunj was founded by the Saint-Scholar-Philosopher excellence, Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya , who in his youth was also a freedom fighter. Shantikunj has emerged over the years as a unique center and fountain-head of a global movement of Yug Nirman Yojna (Movement for the Reconstruction of the Era) for moral-spiritual regeneration in the light of hoary Indian heritage. It is the head-quarter of Yug Nirman Yojna of the All World Gayatri Pariwar, which has a following of more than twenty million devoted disciples and seventy million persons all over the world.

The Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust is a society registered under the Society Registration Act 1860. The Society was founded by the great yogi, H.H. Dr. Swami Rama, in the year 1989. Kaivalyadhama was started in a bungalow rented by Prabha Shankar Patni, the then Dewan of Bhavnagar, at Lonavla. Swami Kuvalayananda founded Kaivalyadhama in 1924 after being guided and inspired by his Guru’s philosophy that spirituality could uplift society. Above all his many skills, Swami Kuvlayananda was a great visionary who foresaw immense scope for the application of Yoga in all the spheres of life.

Sri Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission

Founder Guru: Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda established Ramakrishna Mission as commanded by his Master, Sri Ramakrishna, for the secular and spiritual amelioration of humankind as a whole, irrespective of caste, creed, colour, nationality, gender or religion. The twofold aim of the Ramakrishna Mission is, in Swami Vivekananda's own Sanskrit slogan, atmano mokshartham jagaddhitaya cha ("For one's own spiritual emancipation and for the welfare of the world"). To achieve this aim at both the individual and the collective level, he established the Ramakrishna Mission, by which he "set in motion machinery which will bring noble ideas to the door of everybody."


Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhan Samsthana

Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana or VYASA is a registered charitable institution (1986) working for making Yoga as a socially relevant Science. Based on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda the four streams of Yoga with unity in their diversity, the key essence of Indian culture, applications of Yoga to bring health, harmony, peace the world over are now spread across the globe in nearly 30 countries. The mission of VYASA is to combine the best of the East (Yoga and Spiritual lore) with that of the West (modern scientific research). Taking into the performance of this Institution in conducting Short Term and Long Term Courses on Yoga and its allied subjects (and on affiliating to 4 universities from 1990 to 2001) including the Bangalore University), the UGC named S-VYASA in 2002 as a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956.


The Divine Life Society

Founder Guru: Swami Shivanandaji

With the sacred aim of bringing peace and joy in everyone's life by dissemination of spiritual knowledge and charitable activities, Worshipful Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj, a glittering star in the modern spiritual firmament, established The Divine Life Society in 1936. The Divine Life Society carries out its noble mission of world-wide revival of spirituality through publication of books, magazines and pamphlets dealing scientifically with all the aspects of Yoga and Vedanta, universal religion and philosophy, by organizing cultural and spiritual conferences and establishing training centers for the practice of Yoga and Vedanta. The Society also conducts three 2-month courses every year to give seekers the basic knowledge of India's culture and to train them in the practice of Yoga and Vedanta. To inspire the young generation of India in their formative years, the Society organizes Spiritual and Personality Development Camps for the children and youth.

ICYER is a founding member of the COUNCIL FOR YOGA ACCREDITATION INTERNATIONAL, a Peer Accreditation Association of Yoga Certification & Degree Granting Institutions Worldwide. Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri, at the age of 88, was one of the most potent and effective forces in the field of Ashtanga yoga worldwide. Trained in modern allopathic medicine, he combined the ancient traditional spiritual sciences with a modern scientific temperament. His hundreds of thousands of students around the world were attracted to his clear, rational, scientific expositions of ancient philosophical and spiritual concepts.


The Yoga Institute

The Yoga Institute was founded on 25th December, 1918 by the Founder Shri Yogendraji. It found a permanent base in Santacruz, Mumbai, in 1948. Spread over one acre of land amidst nature, with three buildings dedicated to Yogic activities, this non-profit organization has been running on its own strength for 9 decades now. About 1000 persons visit the Institute every day for training, health benefits and consultations.


Vipasana International Academy

Founder Guru: Sri S.N.Goenka

Dhamma Giri, meaing 'Hill of Dhamma' is one of the world's largest Vipassana meditation centres. It is co-located with the Vipassana Research Institute at Igatpuri in Maharastra, approximately three hours drive from Mumbai. The center offered its first course in 1976. Today tens of thousands of students study here every year. The centre's pagoda has over 400 cells for individual meditation
