Beetroot, also referred to as Chukandar in India, contains folic acid and high concentrations of nitrates.The presence of nitrates increase the blood flow and oxygen in the body which is great for boosting stamina and making muscles work harder, it also contains potassium, magnesium, carbohydrates, protein, powerful antioxidants, soluble fibre, iron as well as vitamins A, B6 and C, and folic acid. Beetroot is low on calories, and has been shown to lower glucose levels, increase insulin sensitivity and prevent oxidative stress-induced changes in patients with diabetes.
